Now that my body is getting older much faster than I anticipated, I have joined the "Walker Brigade" for a short time while I recovered from my new Hip Replacement in August!
It was quite the hoot! Never did I dream I would be walking with a walker to church, the doctor, the grocery, etc. until this year. For about 4-6 weeks, she was my companion. And, oh how much I appreciated having her!
In the past, I have always honored those who needed this type of assistance and last summer, I went on an Adventure with two of my "older" friends to Amsterdam, MO for lunch.
Just to clarity, I have the some of the most incredible friends who are older than me! But, for this particular adventure, two very special ladies joined me for our small trip from Drexel, MO to Amsterdam, MO. These little towns are only about 15 minutes apart, so no problem!
One friend named, Shirley is 96 years old and another named Rose is 85 years old. We have the time of our lives driving in the country and having lunch at a local diner in the very small town of Amsterdam, MO.
The comical part was getting both ladies in my car, then putting their walkers in my trunk so we could venture down the road together. We got to Amsterdam and of course, I unloaded the walkers from the car and brought each one to Shirley and Rose. We got into the restaurant and had a lovely lunch!
Once we finished, we headed back to the car to put both ladies in their seats and then the walkers in the trunk again. That's when I realized the "Walker Brigade" had begun in my head and my heart! Then, when I have my hip replaced this year, I joined the ladies in this endeavor. It was an honor to be in this brigade with Shirley and Rose!
At one point, my son asked me: "Mom, do you have any friends younger than 80 years old?" It was hilarious! And, yes, I have quite a few friends from their 20's to their 60's!!!
This stage of life has been a new adventure indeed, but oh it is so worth it with friends like these!!!
